4-6 inches of snow! 12 inches of ice!
Posted by phil
We were surprised at the amount of snow we received! All of us had trouble making it up the hill from the front gate. Then once we made it up, we were almost stuck there! The ice held us at camp for a while with the heat turned way up and our winter layers on. Not the typical scene you think of when you remember Camp Ridgecrest! It’s quite a jump from playing 4-sqaure with our shirts off, or screaming across the lake on the zip line. But it was still a ton of fun. We’re lucky to get to come and play and work at camp every day! Enjoy the pictures, we have some more coming soon of some projects around camp!
So, 12 inches of ice?? Not 12 inches deep, but the ice cycles were 12 inches long! Check these out… I opted to not park under the ledge of ice spikes. That would be bad for the Subaru.

Snowmen of the Ridgecrest Nation
Posted by philSnow has fallen once again upon the Ridgecrest Nation, and this time, the wonderful opportunity to make snowmen was not missed. I, Stewart the Intern, along with Sharon and Abby from Girls Camp went out to make snowpeople. The girls made a valiant effort in creating their snow creature with the almost unpackable snow. I then started on what will live in infamy next to Frosty as a most epic snowman.
His name is Toby. He is a towering 5 feet tall, and is putting the ‘man’ back in snowman. Are those 2×4’s for arms? Why, yes they are. Strong arms. The shoulders are akin to Jason March’s with no neck to be seen. The big smile is made of a piece of chewed up frisbee donated to me by Toby’s friend, Mr. Ezra Maslin the canine. Toby’s unwavering stare comes from his eyes being made of solid rock I foraged for in the forests surrounding camp. No need for a scarf – Toby can handle the elements, because he was born in them. This is why he was named an honorary Sioux Trailblazer and was given the privilege of wearing the Sioux headdress. If you hurry and drop by camp in the next day or so, you can meet Toby in person before he melts into legend.

Florida Recruiting Trip
Posted by philGreetings from the road! I’m Stewart Lee, the intern here at Camp Ridgecrest this spring, and I have been traveling for the past week all around florida visiting different colleges in search of new summer staffers. Along the way, i have seen many old staffers and have enjoyed getting to catch up with them.
The first stop was Clemson, where I saw EP Keller and Adam Bebeau. The next stop was the University of Florida where I got to hang out with Steven Fuller for a bit. Then I was off to Pensacola, where I hung out at the Western Florida BCM with Sarah King and Ryan Moore. From there, I traveled to Tallahassee, where i met up with Caleb McClain, Philip Bebeau, Jamey Givens, Ondrea Elliston, Patrick Sexton, and Daniel Braga. Then, I traveled over to Flagler University in St Augustine, and ran into Owen Murphy. After that I drove south to West Palm Beach and hung out with Kayla Dulhagan. Whew. Now, I’m packing up to head back to Clemson for a couple more recruiting opportunities, so I will keep you posted on my further travels.

Fun Times at Disney World
Posted by KarahThis past week, Ron, Phil, Caleb and I had the opportunity to attend the American Camp Association’s National Conference. Camp professionals from all over the United States gathered to learn how to make their camps even better! It was information overload, but we learned a lot! This year’s conference was at Coronado Springs Resort in Disney World.
On Thursday afternoon, the four of us ventured out to Hollywood Studios. The first ride we went on was the Tower of Terror. It is like an elevator ride that takes you up 13 stories but then drops suddenly! It doesn’t do that once, but a few times. I came off the ride with tears streaming down my face, not because I was crying but because I had never heard Ron scream before! We were all laughing so hard! The rest of the afternoon included The Great Movie Ride, a Car Stunt Show, the Rock ‘n’ Roll roller coaster, and one more ride on the Tower of Terror. I love roller coasters, but I thought my heart was going to jump out of my chest on the Rock ‘n’ Roll roller coaster and the Tower of Terror.
We saved the best for last-another ride on the Tower of Terror. We wanted all of you to experience the thrill with us. The second video is for sound purposes only. Listen closely and you can hear us laughing and screaming, but pay special attention to Ron!
We hope you enjoyed this special blog dedicated to our great director, Ron Springs!

Camp Ridgecrest “Best of” Video Clips…You’re Gonna Want to Watch These
Posted by KarahThink synchronized swimming is for girls? Well, some of the Arapaho guys proved that theory wrong this past summer. There really are no words to describe these two clips. Here in the office, we certainly enjoyed watching these…hopefully y’all will enjoy them just as much. So as requested, here are two cabins showing us all the finer points of synchronized swimming!
Check back next week to see the other two cabin performances!

Camp Ridgecrest “Best of” Video Clips
Posted by KarahOne of the things I love about Ridgecrest Camps is having separate camps for the boys and girls. Because let’s face it, guys and girls are definitely different. At camp the boys get to do things that they wouldn’t be allowed to do at home. Would most parents encourage a turkey leg “sword” fight? You never know what will happen during meal times at camp! Watch the video clips below and see guys being guys.

See the New Camp Ridgecrest Infirmary
Posted by philIt almost looks like this building was meant to be there! The new Camp Ridgecrest Infirmary went up fast! Although there is still some work to be done, the framing, windows, doors, showers and roof are all close to be completed! The first picture below was taken on a Friday, the first day the framing crew began. The following picture was taken on a Wednesday afternoon. That’s pretty fast…Not too shabby!
For you Frisbee Golf fans, notice the Tee Box can still be in the same place. The hole won’t be changed! We’ve gotten a lot of questions about this…a big issue for some of us Frisbee Golf regulars…
We felt like it was fitting to place the new Camp Ridgecrest Infirmary in the place of the first home ever built in Ridgecrest, right near Rogers Retreat. We’ll update these picture soon with some shots of the inside, some of the green metal roof, and some of the view from the front porch. Enjoy!

A Winter Wonderland
Posted by philFor the past few days, camp has been experiencing very cold temeratures; cold enough for the lake to freeze over! Then yesterday it started to snow, and kept snowing off-and-on all night. This morning camp looked gorgeous with a nice layer of the white stuff.

Shawnee Cabin Almost Complete
Posted by philThe new Shawnee cabin is coming along nicely! The electrician got it wired up, so now it only lacks rails for the deck, paint, beds and campers!
