Retro Friday: Lake Ridgecrest

Posted by phil

So it’s not a surprise that a lot about Lake Ridgecrest at Camp Ridgecrest has changed over the years. A variety of docks have been in multiple locations. We have had a dock near where Rogers is now. There was also the H-Dock where the Pavilion now sits. We had the I-Dock and the P-Dock. A wooden fence used to line part of the shore and wooden “stumps” were used almost all the way around the lake near the lake road. Below is even a picture of boys racing around the lake road. It looks as if they are standing where the entrance to our dock system now sits. Lots has changed. What do you remember? What do you see in these pictures that are different? What would you like to see a picture of?

  1. I would like to see a picture of the Lakeside Chapel, circa 1978. Charles Proctor, Little Chief Grinning Coyote 1980

  2. Softly and simply both water and gravity
feed upstream creek and it roil
    sending water to lake
which rises to road that serves as a dam.

However may shift the placement of pylons
    and pillars of concrete
Defining hard decks from firm bouncing on blobs,

May there still be the chorus
    in times of transgression
    The chant from us all
“In the lake… In the lake!”

  3. Revisiting thread of the love of the Lake.

This mixes with value of good Lakeside Chapel.

Back in early 70’s I dipped hand into trickle that ran down the side of Activities Building, a great structure now replaced by the Chapel. It’s smooth concrete floor and stamped out steel walls provided for dodgeball and also broom hockey and also good movies. The kind that were flickered with bulb and projector.

Such smoothness of concrete. Such sweet slab of dreams.

My discourse however, must return to its center Fingers dappled in bubbling creek that flows slow to the lake.

First encounter was doubtful, because such low volume. How could such trickle give fill to great lake?

The years give perspective. Keep a hold of those trickles. In concert they deluge to pour in your basin.

Just one of the lessons to come from Camp Ridgecrest.

    1. Very cool lesson Dawson… by the way, the activities building is still there…standing strong, right by that trickle that feeds Lake Ridgecrest.
