Organized Crime

The Galdiators Return to Camp Ridgecrest

It all begins with the sound of an old rams horn echoing throughout camp, followed by a charge of central staff dressed as Gladiators surrounding the campers at Retreat. Everyone is then escorted into Spilman Lodge where they take part in a massive feast on 4 large banquet tables! The teams are already separated and their colors are waiting for them on their chairs! They eat with no plates or utensils, but enjoy foot-long Turkey Legs, chicken legs, tater-tots, rolls, bug juice, corn on the cob and more. (Don’t worry, we had some PB&J for those who needed a little extra.)

From dinner they watch a 4 minute compilation of some of the greatest pump up movie excerpts of all time. After being led to the upper green and through a tunnel of torches, the young gladiators had several training exercises that you will see on the video, all leading up to a huge game of This Land is My Land where the young Gladiator do battle against their counselors! In the end, the campers were victorious and the night ended with a few energetic Gladiator Cheers! What a night! Take a look…

In all of these young boys is a desire to be a man. Now, being a man isn’t always about being tough, strong and wild. But sometimes it is. Gladiator Night is a safe place for these boys to be wild, adventurous, and as manly as possible. It’s tons of fun, and I guarantee you that they will not experience anything like this back home. This event is unique to Camp Ridgecrest for Boys, and it’s one of their favorites…. Check out this sneak peak…

What happens when you give kids well over 13,000 water balloons?

So, water balloons aren’t a new thing. But what happens when you give a group of kids well over 13,000 water balloons. After the game was finished, our second count of balloons estimated closer to 15,000 water balloons….all for one game here at Camp Ridgecrest! I guarantee that this is a game that they won’t experience anywhere else… Check out this short video of the game we call Guerilla Warfare.
