VLOG: Largest Water Balloon Fight of their Life

Posted by phil

It’s not every day that your camper gets the chance to enjoy a 19,000 water balloon showdown. We spent three days filling about 20 over-sized 50 gallon trash cans with water balloons. It’s didn’t take 30 minutes for our boys to throw every last balloon. It’s an absolute blast that they can’t experience anywhere else. Watch this footage…

VLOG: Country Breakfast!

Twice a summer our Central Staff hosts a breakfast for the entire camp. You’ll find loud music, pancakes, bacon, and of course our famous cheese grits! The Grit Train is always a hit! While it’s easily the most energetic breakfast of their year, it almost always ends up in a brief food fight. Oh the fun things that only happen at Camp Ridgecrest! Watch this short video…

VLOG: Bedlam Ball With a Little Newspaper Party on Top

Posted by phil

We had a ton of fun playing Bedlam Ball in the rain! Once we were good and soaked, we transitioned inside to play a Newspaper Party… a camp favorite! But we weren’t done there… after we had the boys good and tired, we relaxed and watched a movie at Ridgecrest Cinema. It was a packed night, and they had a blast! Watch how much fun they had!

VLOG: Camp-wide Clue

Posted by phil

You may remember the classic game of Clue. Sometimes it’s a board game, sometimes it’s an event held at a bed and breakfast, but this time it’s a huge game with all 325 campers and staff at Camp Ridgecrest for Boys! There were 11 suspects, 8 weapons, 8 possible dates, 8 rooms where the crime could have taken place, and 8 motives that the campers had to decide between. The camp was broken into teams that had to run around the property completing small challenges in order to learn facts about the crime. If you completed the challenge, then you received a clue. The first team to solve the mystery was declared the winner!

Perhaps the funniest part of the game is the end when the mystery unfolds before their very eyes. Our “characters” act out the hilarious crime as answers to the questions are revealed one at a time. It was fun to play, and hysterical to watch. This game is a camper and staff favorite. Here is a sneak peak…

VLOG: A Country Breakfast

Posted by phil

An average meal at Camp Ridgecrest is exciting. It’s loud, tons of energy, lots of food, laughter, cheering, singing, stomping and clapping… it’s just a good time. But there is one morning, twice a summer, where breakfast is a little bit rowdier than a typical day at camp. The best part of this breakfast is that it’s only the beginning of the best day of the session. This breakfast was followed by skills, SockWar, and then Organized Crime. It’s the day that never ends…and they love it. Check out this short clip from breakfast!

VLOG – Bedlam Ball

Posted by phil

Have you ever been to Wal-Mart or Target and seen those cages full of the large inflatable balls? I feel like every kid wants to grab one of those balls and play with it. That’s what inspired this Camp Ridgecrest game! We took 120 over-sized balls and placed them in a huge pile in the middle of a field. The entire camp, broken up into 10 teams, each guarding their own goal… we call it Bedlam Ball. It’s one of the campers’ favorites! Watch this short clip!

The 2013 Tribal Leaders

Posted by matt

APACHE: ZACK AYERS

A.K.A. LC Sensible Stoat! He will be a senior at James Madison University and this is going to be his tenth summer at Camp Ridgecrest (count ’em)!  One of his favorite things about camp are the friendships you make – no matter where you are in life. He has big plans on teaching the Apache brethren how to be serious warriors for Christ and be the great, hairy chested me they truly are!

SHAWNEE: BRANDON DAVIS

Some call him Brandon, but around here he goes by Chief Intense Timberwolf. He comes all the way from Indiana where he is a Junior at The Indiana State Univeristy “Home of the Sycamores”. He is a full time student where he is studying to be an elementary school teacher. This will be his 12th year at camp… so the man knows camp. He is  pumped about the fact that strangers come to camp and grow together worshiping the same awesome God. Get ready folds, he already has big plans for SubWars and the crazy cool Shawnee Nation.

Choctaw: NATHAN BURKETT

Chief Riotous Orangutan is back as your Choctaw TL for this summer! He is a senior dawg at Mississippi State University, and this will be his 4th summer at camp. He has served as a Choctaw Counselor for two years and then Choctaw TL for one. This summer he will start up another Civil War on Choctaw Hill while other tribes stay jealous. However, he most excited to see Jesus begin transforming and keep transforming lives through the Holy Spirit’s work at camp. We are mighty! We are raw!

ARAPAHO: DEAN HELTON

This will be his 3rd summer at Camp Ridgecrest (although first as a TL). He has been a Choctaw Counselor for the past two summers, but this year he is changing it up! Right now, he is a senior at Mid America Baptist Theological Seminary in Memphis Tennessee. Dean has made it one of his goals to take down the Sioux 4 out of 4 times in the Arapaho vs. Sioux Ultimate Frisbee game. How will the Araps fare? We shall see…

SIOUX TRAILBLAZERS: EP KELLER

Chief Temperate Rhino bringing up the rear from Greenville, South Carolina and graduate of the Clemson University (Go Tigers!). God has brought him back for a seventh summer at camp to keep blazing trails with the Sioux. His favorite thing about camp is how evident the presence of God is and can be witnessed in the many relationships and interactions between new and former campers and staffers. He plans on bringing his “A” game for the Sioux-Arap frisbee game and refuses to lose. This year’s games will definitely be some for the history books.
