Safari in North Carolina?

Posted by matt

Thats right- a safari. When we think safari we think wild beast roaming their natural habitat, free to do as they please. We think of images people only see in magazines. We think of hundreds of creatures joining together at the water hole for a cool down dip. So yeah, I’d say a tour around Camp Ridgecrest qualifies as a safari.

A New Hire for the Camps

Posted by phil

As of Friday March 1st, we have a new full time employee with the camps. For years people have asked us how we survived with only 1 maintenance person. With around 70 buildings, 7 vehicles, heavy equipment, 130 acres, and new projects always on the horizon, we have had our hands full. Marty Quinn has faithfully served with us for about 8 years! And now, he has some help!

Rob Wilson has served at LifeWay’s Ridgecrest Conference Center since 1998. He was currently operating as the Grounds and Water Department Manager when we hired him onto our Maintenance Team. While Rob has expertise in plumbing and operating heavy machinery, he also has experience with just about every situation that he can expect here at the Camps!

Rob grew up around Black Mountain, NC and currently lives here with his wife and 2 boys. Introduce yourself to Rob when you see him and help make him feel welcome to the Ridgecrest Summer Camps family!

Cabin Updates!

Posted by matt

Well, it has been a while since we last discussed the progress of the cabins. A lot has be done to say the least. The Arapaho cabins have been gutted, studded and have now budded into great looking cabins. The interior has been revamped and the porches are updated and roofed. They are looking real nice about now. We went with a wooded brown with scarlet red trim to compliment as the Apache cabins inverse. Take a look for yourself at the brand spanking new cabins!

Man Skill

Posted by matt

There is one statement that gives me chills every time it makes its way into a conversation; Men of the Ridgecrest Nation. Camp Ridgecrest is alive with boys becoming men, and men becoming better men, so much so, that camp offers a Man Skill to sharpen and hone those raw qualities of a man. Here’s a little sneak peek into the infamous Man Skill.

The Well…

Posted by matt

We so often drink from tainted wells that promise us nothing. Remember, Jesus is the well that promises us everything! Drink from the well that won’t run dry, drink form the well of living waters! Take a look at the theme video from 2012, The Well, and think back on all that you learned last summer.

National Camp Ridgecrest Day!

Posted by matt

Hello All!

Tomorrow, December 8th, is National Camp Ridgecrest Day! So what does that mean exactly?

Well let us tell you.

Tomorrow will be the day that all across America (and some other countries) we get to show our support of Camp Ridgecrest to all out friends! Basically, you can do anything you want to help you remember camp!

If you want to just wear a camp shirt and show it off to you friends, go for it. If you want to wake up to Ron’s much anticipated “Gooooooooooooood morning Camp Ridgecrest,” go for it (click here for download). Or hey, if you feel compelled to play sockwar in your local grocery store, then by all means. But whatever you may decide to do, don’t forget to take a picture of it and sent it to us at matt.stapp@lifeway.com! We want to see what you are doing around the country!

Some more examples of what to do are:

  • sing a song and a blessing before each meal
  • eat family style
  • draw up a four square court and get your game on
  • sing some camp songs
  • have a morning watch with your family
  • conduct a morning assembly for you family
  • have a “cabin Inspection” for each room in your house

The possibilities are endless folks! Be creative and have fun remembering camp!

And don’t forget to send in pictures of what you do! (send to matt.stapp@lifeway.com)

Real Change

Posted by Karah

“Humankind cannot bear very much reality.” —T.S. Eliot

Read Jeremiah 8:8-12.  Write down the things in the passage that roused God’s anger.
“How can you claim, ‘We are wise; the law of the Lord is with us’? In fact, the lying pen of scribes has produced falsehood. The wise will be put to shame; they will be dismayed and snared. They have rejected the word of the Lord, so what wisdom do they really have? Therefore, I will give their wives to other men, their fields to new occupants, for from the least to the greatest, everyone is making profit dishonestly. From prophet to priest, everyone deals falsely. They have treated superficially the brokenness of My dear people, claiming, ‘Peace, peace,’ when there is no peace. Were they ashamed when they acted so abhorrently? They weren’t at all ashamed. They can no longer feel humiliation. Therefore, they will fall among the fallen. When I punish them, they will collapse,” says the Lord.” —Jeremiah 8:8–12

Now, read verse 11 again in your Bible. How would you write that verse in your own words? What do you think it means? Jot down your ideas.

THE POINT
Reality can be ugly, but no real change can happen until you acknowledge the way things really are. You can’t ignore sin, treat it like it’s not important, or control it. For God to make a difference in your life and the lives of those around you, you have to acknowledge your sin.

JOURNAL
Get real with God today. In your journal, write your no-holds-barred, no secrets response to today’s passage. If the Holy Spirit brings to mind unconfessed sin, confess it. Ask God to help you hate the sin in your life the same way He does.
