2012 Theme Design

Posted by Karah

Are you getting excited about this summer yet?  It won’t be long till we have campers at camp again!  We’ve been spending a lot of time thinking about our theme for this summer.  We have finally made a decision and it is “The Well”.  The theme verse is John 7:38, “Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, ‘Rivers of living water will flow from his heart.” NLT

We are currently trying to think of a design for our theme.  We are having a little trouble so we’d like your help! From now until Friday, February 17th, we will be accepting submissions for the potential theme design.  The person who submits the best design will win $50 to our clothing store this summer.  We may even put that design on our theme shirt!  You can send submissions to rscamps@ridgecrestcamps.com.  Submissions can be drawn by hand, designed on a computer, etc.

We can’t wait to see what you come up with!

A few of those differences include: big porches, a green trim on Choctaw cabins, green roofing, Cabin 12 facing a new direction, new green doors, and much more! To see how awesome the upgrades are, check out the pictures below…

High Five Etiquette

Posted by phil

Boys learn a lot of things here at Camp Ridgecrest. One of those things is how to properly administer a “high five.” Thanks to the friends of camp,  “Trip and Tyler” for this hilarious idea!

Choctaw Cabins Get New Floors and Walls

Posted by anthologycreative

The last time we updated everyone on the progress taking place on Choctaw Hill, the exterior of the cabins was nearing completion. From the outside, it seemed the job was pretty much done. But there still much work that needed to be done. Today, we can announce the the cabins are about 99% done. They do not have the furniture moved back in, but they have received a face-lift on the inside. Each of the cabins are now equipped with brand new walls, ceilings, and floors. You will also be able to note the new doors that cabins have received. Another upgrade you will see are the wooden window shutters that can cover screen windows in the winter to protect the cabins from winter weather. In the pictures below, you will see all of these new additions as well as a preview of the new windows to the old walls that show some of the old camper and staff names. In one picture, you will see names of camp friends from decades ago, including Chris Shirley, as well as his son Andrew. Enjoy!

Retro Friday: Under the Trinity Tree

Posted by phil

Each summer at Camp Ridgecrest, campers and staff alike find themselves sitting under this great tree on the middle green.. Over the years it has earned the name the “Trinity Tree” partially because of its 3 strong trunks that all come together as one at the base. I’m sure many staff have used this analogy to help explain to campers how our God can be the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit all at once. It’s helps young men see the power, strength, beauty and mystery of God in a more tangible way. It also serves as a reminder to all who pass through it’s shadows that we are not doing our own work here at Camp Ridgecrest. Rather we serve in the shadow of a God who desperately wants to bring each and every camper close to himself. I can only imagine the number of campers who decided to follow Jesus during a campfire, sitting beneath this great landmark. What stories can you recall about this special spot in camp? Funny Sockwar intro skits, other camp-wide games, campfire stories, and more. Here is a picture of 2 legends here at Camp Ridgercest. Can you tell who they are…doing what they do best. Share below…

Gladiator Night

Posted by phil

We love letting boys be boys, and in the meantime feel like men. In a society where kids just have to grow up too fast, we pride ourselves on giving kids the chance to remain kids and have a blast! But just for fun, we also love giving them the chance to let their testosterone run wild and play hard in a safe environment! They love it…check it out…

Our Gingerbread House

Posted by Karah

Ridgecrest Summer Camps recently entered a Gingerbread House Contest that was held at the Ridgecrest Christmas Party (Conference Center and Camp staff).  We also had to submit a video with our Gingerbread House.  We didn’t win first place, but we did win “Most Creative”!  You all should be proud!

Retro Friday: Old Cabins

Posted by phil

Our Cabins here at Camp Ridgecrest have made quite a bit of progress over the years. There have been a number of renovations including: adding new roofs and higher walls, painting the cabins different colors, adding sky lights, adding block stilts rather than wood, adding small platforms outside the door, adding a small deck to that platform, and now adding a covered porch. It’s neat to watch the transformation over the years! What do you remember?
