We Can’t Be Afraid Of Change
Posted by phil
Dear Camp Families,
I seriously can’t believe that the leaves are already changing here at camp. We are about to step into the second most beautiful season around here. By far the most beautiful sight and sound is camp filled with laughter, bouncing balls, slamming screen doors, bugles and bells, and of course the sound of real conversations, challenging conversations, that lead to something new, that create growth.
The leaves at camp turn to the most beautiful yellows and reds before falling to the ground and crunching under our feet as we walk the gravel roads in October. It is one of the most visible signs of change, and I love it. But the changing of the seasons doesn’t compare to the beauty of watching the camp adventure shape your boys and girls into the men and women God wants them to be.
We can’t be afraid of change. We need it. Our kids need it. They can’t stay where they are. Challenge in life will naturally bring change with it. At camp, we celebrate the challenges that are both cultivated and those that simply fall in our lap because we woke up with other people around.
As you move quickly into this new season back home with your sons and daughters, I encourage you to keep an eye out for the hard things that they are encountering. Don’t save them from them, but rather support them gently, allowing them to figure things out at whatever pace is needed. Failure is not the problem. In fact, it’s the quickest and perhaps the most effective teacher. But with failure we sure do need a lot of love.
Love your kids well while allowing them to make hard decisions and face challenges head on. They will have to do it one day with or without you. Having a front row seat can be hard, but there is no better place to be as a biggest fan.
Thanks for loving your kids well. Thanks for trusting us as we watch them together grow into men and women of God.
A two-week adventure that shapes the person your child becomes – Ridgecrest Summer Camps.
